What does it mean when I have these muscle spasms?

Sometimes when I lay down on my side or stomach, I get these painless spasms. It feels like the middle of my chest is getting pulled in and then out over and over or it’s folding inward over and over. They start off with one big in and out spasm that looks like I’m shrinking into myself. Then I’ll have 8 to 10 pull-ins, then it stops, 3 or 4, then it stops. Sometimes I’ll have more and sometimes I have less. It doesn’t happen all the time but it never happens when I’m laying on my back, only when I’m on my side or stomach when I’m trying to fall asleep.

Muscle spasms are a common problem for many people and have numerous causes. You should start your eval of a cause and treatment with your family physician.

I am at a loss as to what may be going on exactly. While spasms are common, most are associated with a degree of discomfort and more commonly occurring in the extremities. Without a full detailed history and examination, it's quite difficult to determine what may be going on exactly. I suggest making an appointment with your primary or a Neurologist to evaluate such.
