Good morning! This is a great question but as all doctors will tell you, it depends. It depends on the grade the sprain is. Which ligaments in the shoulder are damaged. A ligament's function is to prevent excessive motion at a joint. On top of this ligaments are usually avascular, meaning they have no direct blood supply to the area. To answer your question, Grades 1-2 sprains are usually rest, proper dieting, decrease the usage of that shoulder, massage, cupping therapy, physical therapy, etc. A Grade 3 means the ligament is completely torn and there is no other way for the ligament to heal unless it is surgically repaired. Hopefully this answers your question! Thanks, Christopher Wydler D.C.
The problem of answering your question is based on terminology since extremities can be "sprained" or "strained". In order to clarify the difference is to have an examination by a qualified Chiropractor. Find a Chiropractor who is versed in sports injuries and/or an AK Chiropractor (Applied Kinesiology) and get an examination. With the proper information of your injury, an accurate and proper plan of recovery can be prepared.
Keep that shoulder moving. The more you keep that shoulder moving the better. Stay away from lifting anything heavy until it heals. Depending on the severity of the sprain, it wouldnt hurt to get checked by a chiropractor that specializes in sports or muscle work. Thank you for your time!
