Be gentle, do what your dentist recommends. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Also be careful in using alcohol based mouth rinses. Warm salt water rinses are often good to do. Or if your dentist has prescribed you an oral antibiotic rinse such as Peridex/chlorhexidine, that is great too.
Warm salt water rinses, keep sharp foods away from the area, and generally keep the area clean with proper brushing techniques.
Provide favorable conditions for healing, avoid stretching the graft, playing with the graft, eat healthy, vitamins, avoid alcohol-containing mouthwash, use warm hot water and salt as mouthwash, don’t forcefully move the mouthwash in your mouth, just tilt your head towards the graft so the mouthwash cleans any food debris, in the first couple of days, eat soft food.
Healing starts from the inside so make sure you’re eating well and staying hydrated. Also, gentle warm salt water rinses help speed up healing
The best thing to do is to avoid eating hard or chewy foods and to be as gentle as possible. Stick to things like eggs and oatmeal for the first 1-2 weeks. Try not to eat spicy food. Do not poke or manipulate the surgical area. Try gentle rinsing with warm salt water and avoid brushing any teeth in the area.
Periodontal dressing is something dentists put on sometimes after surgery. Coconut oil also helps, and vitamin D supplements.
After the graft is completed, the provider will discuss home care instructions based on the type of graft.

Congratulations on taking a step towards oral health with a gum graft! The most important thing to do is follow the post-operative instructions given by your surgeon because they know your case the best. In general, you want to let your body heal by staying away from the area, not pulling on your lip or cheek, not eating on that side, and taking any medication as
prescribed by your surgeon. Gum grafts are typically very successful, and the body has great healing potential, so just let it heal!
