With any surgery, there is a certain risk of complications. And an oral surgeon is best equipped to handle them. As part of their formal training, they learn how to manage complications that may arise from extracting wisdom teeth, including infection, maxillary sinus issues, bleeding and nerve injury.
Hi!

Wisdom teeth are unique. A lot of general dentists do not have the training to remove wisdom teeth and/or are not comfortable removing them. They can be difficult depending on their position in the jaw and/or proximity to the main nerve in your lower jaw. Based on this, an oral surgeon is a good referral to make a patient more comfortable for difficult surgeries.

Not always the case, do you need an oral surgeon for wisdom teeth removal.

The reasons for wisdom teeth removal with an oral surgeon are:
1. Challenging impactions
2. Need for IV sedation
3. General dentist you are seeing does not do wisdom teeth extractions
The extraction of a retained molar is more difficult and more prone to complications. This is because they are often retained with a certain inclination, and usually under the gum or gum and bone, so it will be necessary osteotomy techniques, or odontosection for its extraction.
