Can a tooth extraction cause nerve damage?

I am a 29 year old female. I will have a tooth extraction. Can a tooth extraction cause nerve damage?

Yes, primarily a concern in the back of the lower jaw where a large nerve is positioned in the bone and in close proximity with the roots of teeth.
That can be a risk, typically more so with a back lower tooth. The position of the tooth and the nerve will be the important factor. There are different imaging techniques your surgeon should use to visualize the nerve position better (like a cone beam CT) if it looks critical to help quantify that risk for you.
Yes.
