Can cheap sunglasses ruin my vision?

I heard from my friend that some sunglasses can actually cause vision problems. I don't spend a lot of money on sunglasses, so I'm concerned now. Can cheap sunglasses ruin my vision?

Yes if the sunglasses don't have proper UV protection then it will cause your pupils to dilate and be exposed to more UV damage than if you were not wearing sunglasses and your pupils constrict due to the bright sunlight
Yes. Often times cheap sunglasses aren't polarized and the tints are just sprayed onto the lens and can wear off and cause sun damage.

No but what it can do is long term damage to the eye. They have no ultra violet protection in the sunglasses that could be harmful. No protection against cataracts.
Sunglasses without ultraviolet light (UV) protection can ruin your vision by causing the development of cataracts (cloudiness of your natural lens in your eye which can lead to blurry and double vision), degeneration of the macula (cause blindness of your central vision), and even rare eye related cancers. Just be sure that your sunglasses have UV protection embedded in the lens, which will prevent UVA and UVB from entering your eye and causing possible damage to your eye. Definitely look for sunglasses with labels that say "100% protection against UVA and UVB."
Yes, some cheap sunglasses can create more distortion due to poor lens quality.
That is correct. The quality of sunglass lenses vary. Anything under $50 probably have poor quality optics and or UV protection. Best quality are usually around $200 or more. But designer sunglasses are expensive because it’s a fashion item; you want sunglasses that are expensive because of lens quality such as Maui Jim or Persol.
Yes. Wearing poor quality lenses can cause damage. With tinted sunglasses, your pupils dilate and if the proper UV protection is not on the lenses then the UV can come through to your eyes and can cause more damage to your eyes. UV can pass through tinted lenses unless they are properly coated. Polarized lenses can offer better protection and a proper UV protectant lens materials can help. They don’t have to be expensive, just good quality. Buy optical quality sunglasses from a reputable source.
Sunglasses without good UV protection can indeed cause more harm than good as the pupil dilates under a dark lens allowing more UV to pass inside the eye. Good sunglasses should have 100% UVA and B shielding.
Not true. Sunglasses are the spf 50 of the eye. Skin needs protection from sun. Same goes for the eyes.
Buy sunglasses that have the UVA/UVB protection. As long as they block the harmful ultraviolet rays and they don’t have distorted areas when you look through them, they are safe.
Yes, they could due to bad lens material, base curve, type of UV protection, or polarization used.
