Psychiatrist Questions stress

My colleague is undergoing severe stress at work. Can a therapist help him?

My colleague is a very competent man, but is currently facing a lot of stress at work, which is worsening his health. Should I recommend him to a therapist to help him manage the condition better? I think he just needs someone outside of work to talk about how he feels.

You should ask him if he has seen a therapist and, if not, why not.
Definitely, psychotherapy can help to overcome his stress
Hi, absolutely refer him to a therapist ..this could help him immensely...you are a true friend and colleague....he is fortunate to have you in his corner..sincerely, Dr. Amy
Talking to a therapist can definitely help him. Therapy will allow him to discuss his concerns with someone trained in techniques to uncover underlying psychological issues that could be interfering in his ability to cope. The Therapist can also help on working with him on stress reduction techniques as well as learning some coping strategies which he can use at the workplace. While in therapy he can also be assessed and referred to a psychiatrist for medications if necessary.
He would certainly benefit. Everybody needs to talk to an objective outsider sometimes, and the assurance which that person is trained in will maintain confidentiality makes it a clear win. Do it!!
Sure! It can be challenging to confront him, but if he accepts that he has issues, then a therapist will be a good resource.
Thank you.
Indeed, talking, or as we say, catharsis, in a friendly setting will help. Occasionally, if the anxiety is too severe, a mild medication will help. The most important thing is to identify the etiology of this stress and help the patient to have insight.
Therapy can be helpful. Best with coping skills, meditation. Sometimes just talking works, but often not enough. Exercise helps, too. We have to make sure he isn't drinking to "cope."
Yes, that’s a good approach to encourage him start therapy. If that doesn’t help much he can also get some anti stress medications from his PCP/GP or see a psychiatrist then.
