“Can you have a filling without anesthesia?”
I'm going to have a cavity filled next week, but I'd like to do it without any anesthesia. I don't like having anything unnatural unless I really need it. Can I opt out of anesthesia for fillings?

Hi! Remember you are in charge of your health including your dental health. You can opt out of any injection for any treatments however we as a dental professionals would not like to cause discomfort so it’s our responsibility to explain to our patients the amount of discomfort if any needs to be tolerated without anesthesia.
Yes. A number of fillings can be done without anesthesia. There are some cavities that are not very deep and can be filled without being numbed or without having anesthesia. It really depends on the tolerance and comfort level of the patient as well as the dentist's level of comfort, skill, and technique for doing the filling without numbing the patient. I receive that request fairly often and do them quite frequently. I always tell my patients to let me know if they start to feel any discomfort while we are doing the filling, and if we have serious numbing gels that can be used during a procedure that do not require an injection and help you to fell comfortable during the procedure with no lasting numbing sensations.
Yes, you can opt out. You should consult with your dentist first for their opinion as the size and depth of the filling will be a factor as to any sensitivity or pain you may feel without being anesthetized.
It depends on how deep the decay is and it also depends on patient’s pain tolerance. You can always opt out and have the dentist start working, whenever you feel pain, let them know and they can numb you at that time.
Hope this helps. All the best :)

Some patients have their TEETH restored without anesthesia. Some patients want anesthesia if you are just looking at a tooth. Tell your doctor how you feel, I am sure he will listen.
