Red eyes in the morning can be caused by many different things but the most common cause is dry eye due to the incomplete closure of the eyelids while sleeping (lagophthalmos). This can cause the eyes to dry and when you wake up your eyes are red, itching and/or burning. Treatment includes lubricating eye drops during the day and lubricating eye gel or ointment at night. However, a proper diagnosis should be made by a complete ophthalmologic examination.
You can try using artificial tear gel at night and see if it helps. However, there are many reasons for eye redness and some of them are potentially dangerous, and you should see an MD to fully evaluate your condition as soon as practicable.
Most likely due to eye dryness. Put in plain eye ointment in each eye prior to going to sleep, and that should take care of it.
