Double check that your form for each exercise is not causing further strain. Stretching before and after. Ice after. Stay hydrated!
Keeping good posture and a neutral spine will prevent neck pain while exercising. If you are straining your neck while exercising, this can also cause pain.
If you are having neck pain while you are exercising, there is something wrong. You should get it checked out. A good chiropractor will take a detailed history and do a complete examination to find the reason for your pain, make a proper diagnosis, and recommend the appropriate treatment. Your chiropractor may make suggestions on what you should do to change your workout routine, if that is part of the problem.
Good form is the best way to prevent injuries with exercise. If the pain persists then there’s likely a bigger problem that should be checked by your chiropractor.
Range of motion stretching lubricates the tissues of the neck. Such as the muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints. In my opinion hard forceful stretching can be aggravating and then the tissues tighten back up. Therefore I advocated more motion and less hard stretching.
