“How do you fix a torn ACL?”
I am a 19 year old female. I tore my ACL when playing lacrosse. How do you fix a torn ACL?

Hi,
Is your ACL tear complete or partial? If complete, surgery is the option, if it's a partial tear, we can fix it with PT using different modalities.

Multiple types of surgery for this with most involving a graft of some sort. Depends on your surgeon
A fully torn ACL needs to be surgically reconstructed. Average return to play is 9-12 months. Don't wait too long because it will cause other injuries to your knee that could affect it permantely.
ACL is generally not repaired but new ACL is reconstructed using your own hamstring tendon or other tendons in your body. Sometimes tendon harvested from a cadaver, also known as allograft is used. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
