It is difficult! You need to have a good ENT exam. It may be hearing loss. There are medications that can help with this and also help you sleep better.
Tinnitus is the name for ringing. Even people with normal hearing can have it, but if you have been exposed to Hazardous noise it would be good to get your hearing tested by an audiologist to see if hearing loss is causing the ringing. At night try a fan or noise machine. I bought one at bed bath beyond called a “Dohm” and It creates a white noise which helps to mask it. Basically at night, if the room is very quiet your brain may be on “high alert” or hypersensitive. The white noise helps your brain relax. Also try a free app made by “Widex” called “Zen” You can stream it from your cellphone speaker while you are falling asleep.
Turn on a radio at bedtime to override or cancel out the tinnitus. If it is affecting other activities of living see ENT. Hearing aids have been used to manage tinnitus. Severe cases may require mild sedatives, cognitive therapy, tinnitus maskers. No caffeine, alcohol, smoking, aspirin or ibuprofen
Do you have it constantly or do you only notice it for a short time before falling asleep? If it's distracting you from falling asleep, I would suggest putting some noise on in the background (i.e., fan, humidifier, meditation music, etc.). I might also suggest getting your hearing checked. Constant "ringing" in the ears is called tinnitus. It's very common and can be a symptom of hearing loss, but not always.
The medical term for ringing noise is tinnitus. At 20 years old, you really shouldn’t have this. I would see an ear specialist. Also, definitely avoid loud noises.
White noise app or background fan will help
