“How long does the hole take to close after tooth extraction?”
I'm 31, and I had a tooth extraction just two days ago. How long does it take the hole to close after tooth extraction?

Several weeks, depends on a number of things. Your overall health, smoking, if you use straws, if sutures were placed, etc.
There are different phases of tooth extraction site healing process or socket to level up with the adjacent bone. The first 48 hrs the capillaries will fill the socket and the bleeding will stop. Then 48-72 hrs and the next 4 weeks the fibers start filling the socket with the gum (soft tissue). Then, 4-10 weeks the mesenchymal cells will transform into bone cells and bone start filling the socket. The healing process is depend on the severity of the extraction, traumatic tooth extraction might take a while to heal compare to atraumatic tooth extraction. It is also true that impacted teeth extraction might take longer healing time due to the process of removing more bone to get to the tooth/teeth.
Typically, it takes about 4 to 6 weeks for the whole to completely close, and about 6 months for the bone to fill in.
Depending on whether you are a fast healer or not, smoker or not and many other factors the hole can take from 2 to 4 weeks to close up. The cleaner you can keep the extraction site, the faster it will close up.

The extraction site should heal up within a couple of weeks. However the "hole" can take several months for it to fill in with bone, and up to a year to flatten out and appear normal again.
