“How long does it take for a broken fibula to heal after surgery?”
My 17-year-old son has a broken fibula. I want to know how long does it take for a broken fibula to heal after surgery?

Depends on the extend on fracture, type of surgery, techniques used, etc... please address this with your surgeon.
6-8 weeks for bone to heal completely even after surgery. The positive of surgery is walking and range of motion of the ankle can start sooner.
This is determined by the type of fracture and surgery performed. Usually it takes 8-12 weeks to heal depending on age and blood flow to the bone.
Like any small bone, 6-8 weeks is minimum. Too much activity, fracture at or near the ankle joint can prolong that time.
If it was a simple break, and not a complicated fracture without multiple boken pieces, then he should be able to walk in a boot after 4-6 weeks and start sports with a protective brace about 3 months after surgery.
Unfortunately, there are many types of fractures of the fibula...one type being called an avulsion fracture that can heal in 4-6 weeks...but more complicated fractures of the upper or proximal fibula can be more severe and require 3-4months of healing time .Good luck.
Most Ossetia structures take 8-12 weeks to heal, and a healthy 17-year-old should heal well, provided immobilization techniques and refraining from walking on the ankle is adhered to. As long as fibula in’s non-displaced, there should be no worry for a healthy 17-year-old fibula from healing well.
All fractures take about 6-8 weeks to heal after surgery (6 weeks is 'normal' healing time). BUT, there will likely be swelling, stiffness, and possible need for physical therapy after surgery. Swelling may last for 6-12 months after surgery, but decreases steadily as you get further out from the date of surgical intervention
