Antibiotics like amoxicillin start to work as soon as you begin taking them. Most patients report a noticeable difference in symptoms after 2-3 days. If one has issues with their antibiotics, it is important so speak with ones doctor to see if the type or dosage needs to be changed.
While the antibiotic begins to work within hours of taking it, you should see results within several days.
Antibiotics usually take 2 days to start working to control the infection, not cure it. If the tooth has an infected root canal, it will not be cured until the root canal is done. Best to see your endodontist as soon as possible for the root canal treatment. If the cause of the infection isn't removed, the infection can return. If antibiotics cured the root canal infection, there would be no need for root canal treatment.
You need to take all the medication prescribed to you, but generally it takes about 24 hrs to start to see the effects.
