“How long does novocaine last after wisdom tooth removal?”
I'm going to have my wisdom teeth removed next week, both of my bottom ones. I know I'm going to get novocaine for it, but I was also planning on doing something later that day. Does the novocaine typically last long?

There are different types of local anesthetic. Actually, Novocain (which is a brand name) is no longer used as too many patients were allergic to it, but everyone still knows that name. Lidocaine, the most common, might last 2-3 hours. Often with lower teeth, they will use Marcaine which could last 6-8 hours after. Ask you surgeon about expectations in that regard, as best to get started with some form of pain med BEFORE the numbness wears off.
It depends on which local anesthetic was used and how much medication made it to the nerve. Varying anesthetics have different properties causing varying lengths of effect.
There are different types of local anesthesia or Novocaine that are used for this procedure. It can last as long as 4 to 6 hours. It would be best if you rested for the rest of the day after your surgery to avoid possible complications eg, prolonged bleeding.
There are different types of local anesthetics (novocaine) and they each have a different duration. Depending on which is used, you may be numb from 90 minutes to 10 hours. Generally, if the teeth are difficult, it is preferable to be numb as long as possible to minimize pain after surgery. This is something you should discuss with your surgeon.
Novocaine in particular hasn’t been used for many years. Lidocaine is a common anesthetic and lasts two hours or so. Marcaine is often used for third molar removal as it may last up to 10 hrs and thus provide some initial pain relief during early recovery.
There are several local anesthetics used by dentists. Most commonly, Lidocaine (aka Xylocaine) is used. Duration can vary depending upon the amount used and the location of the injection. Most often, one may expect a local anesthetic to last 1-2 hours, unless a long-acting anesthetic, such as Marcaine, was used which may last 4-8 hours. Another consideration with lower wisdom teeth removal is that the nerve is often very close to the roots and some "bruising" of the nerve may occur upon removal of the wisdom tooth which may prolong the numbing hours or even days or weeks.
