How many times can a crown be replaced?

I am a 40 year old male. I want to know how many times can a crown be replaced?

The more you drill on a tooth the problems you can have. It can lead to root canal and fractures etc. Not sure if there’s a definite number but use o more than four or five times in a lifetime I would imagine.
There is no limitation in how many times a crown can be replaced. If you are having to replace a crown more frequently than every 5 to 10 years, you need to ask why? I don’t like to see a crown replaced more frequently than 10 years
Hi,

Practically a crown can be replaced indefinite number of times. The reason to replace it should be justified. If the tooth under the crown keeps getting decayed then every time its replaced, more tooth structure is removed, which can weaken the foundation of a crown. A dentist then needs to do additional procedures to salvage it.
I hope this helps.
A crown needs to be redone if there is decay underneath...most likely due to an open margin. Also, there has to be enough healthy tooth structure 2.5mm above bone to support it. It is determined by a combination of radiography AND clinical exam. Little hard with teledentistry.
The average life of a crown is 7 years, but we have patients who have them for more than 20 years as there are lots of factors that regulate the life of the crown.
As many times as is necessary.
There are no “rules” regarding number of times. But the first question I have is, what is the reason for multiple remakes on the same tooth? And how frequently are these remakes? As long as the tooth has enough of its own structure and integrity, there is not a special number of remakes in order to achieve a successful result. But if the remakes are within a relatively short time period, then something sounds fishy with either your tooth, or the operator.
Good luck.
