Is discogram safe?

My doctor just suggested we try a discogram to evaluate my spine. How does a discogram work? Is discogram safe?

It is safe, do it.
A question for a radiologist.
Yes but can have complications. Discuss it with the doctor prior to the procedure
It is safe and useful. They place a needle in your disc under X-ray through your back muscles and inject contrast to stimulate pain, then see if your pain is the same as your usual pain, then they inject numbing meds to stop the pain.
Your doctor should have given you that information at the time of recommending it, probably by law. You should get all your questions answered first before going through any type of procedure. And the doctor has the responsibility to provide it.
I do not recommend a discogram, they can have serious complications. X-rays are a great way to see the bones of the spine, and MRI is the best way to see the soft tissues around the spine, and much safer.
