Your surgeon should use plenty of local anesthetic (numbing medicine). You should only feel a small pin prick sensation when the needle is inserted. If the anesthetic is buffered with bicarb it doesn't even burn when injected. Some surgeons offer something for relaxation or to minimize anxiety prior to the procedure.
