Dentist Questions Mouthwash

Is there a safe mouthwash for toddlers?

What should I look for when buying a mouthwash for a toddler? Is there any particular mouthwash that you would recommend?

If your child can swish and spit then you could use an over the counter childrens fluoride rinse. But if not then wait until your child can swish and spit. Always use with supervision... The mouthwash instructions will say not under 6 due to possibility of swallowing it. I've had some very cooperative 3 and 4 year olds able to do so but it really depends on the child and again....ALWAYS WITH SUPERVISION
I would not recommend a mouthwash for toddlers. I would wait until they are around 5-7 and able to spit.
If your toddler is brushing and flossing and not consuming carbohydrates between meals, the rinse probably is not necessary. A rinse without alcohol will not do harm, but isn't necessary.
Look for children's. Avoid any with alcohol
Swishing and spitting are a developmental milestone that we achieve at age 6 years. If your toddler wants to copy you with mouthwash, put a little water in a cup and have them practice swishing with water after you've flossed and brushed their teeth. Introduce mouthwash when they turn 6 years of age.
