Urologist Questions Urinary Incontinence

How do kegel exercises help in problems like urinary incontinence?

I am a 37 years old woman and I have been suffering from urinary incontinence. My doctor has advised me to practice kegel exercises. How do these exercises help in solving my problem?

Kegel exercises increase the muscle tone, the strength, and endurance of your pelvic floor muscles, specifically by strengthening the muscles of your pelvic floor.
Weakness in pelvic floor muscles can lead to urinary dysfunction. Strengthening exercises can sometimes improve these symptoms. You should see a urologist or urogynecologist for a full evaluation
They work on strengthening the muscles that control the urine. Kegels are a great way to help stress urinary incontinence, but they don't help that much with urge incontinence. It is important to distinguish the difference.
Possibly. Properly performed Kegel exercises may lessen female stress urinary incontinence (SUI). If your episodes of incontinence are primarily with laughing, sneezing or coughing, Kegegls may help to give you more voluntary control of some of the muscles involved in keeping one dry. Remember to squeeze just before laughing, etc, and the extra tension may help reduce the incontinence.
