If you had a viral upper respiratory infection at the onset of the cough, it will most likely fade away within the next month, and you should just wait. The only drug that truly suppresses a cough is codeine, and its sedative side effects make normal functioning difficult. It may help at night, however. Remember that it is potentially addictive. If you had no viral URI, you should see a physician.
Hello,

Need a thorough evaluation and history. Suggest see an ENT physician and Lung Physician. Must get chest X-ray, look at medical history for any new medications, evaluate for acid reflux. May then consider treatment for reflux if indicated and other medications such as antispasmodic medications to stop cough.

Differential diagnosis includes, however not limited to, gastrointestinal reflux, mycoplasma pneumonia, TB, mild congestive hear failure, allergy, airway contaminant exposure, chronic sinusitis, etc. Best to have chest x-ray and ENT and pulmonary exams.
It could be allergies or sinus but we would need to see you in order to make a diagnosis. Please call our office to schedule an appointment at 818-349-0600
