“Is there a risk involved in a back surgery?”
I am having a lot of pain in my back and it is becoming unbearable. I am considering a back surgery to correct this pain. Is there a risk involved in back surgeries?

What is the diagnosis of your back pain? You must have a diagnosis beforehand to organize surgery if needed. Back pain has a number of causes, and surgery is not always the required treatment, unless you've undergone investigations and have a diagnosis which will require surgery.
Back surgery can be very risky, but can also relieve significant pain. You should try all forms of treatment including physical therapy, chiropractor care, yoga, etc., prior to considering surgery.
I recommend you explore tha exact cause of this back pain. You can't treat every back pain with surgery.
Please get information from 2-4 spine specialists. Surgery is not the only option, depends upon findings in the imaging studies.
There is always a risk to any kind of surgery. Back surgery has came a long way from 20, even 10 years ago. Be sure you see a Doctor who has a good track record in back surgery.
There is a risk with any surgery. Risks include generic things like bleeding, infection, and failure to do the intended good. You also will have a risk for heart attack, stroke, or blood clot, which is dependent on your PERSONAL risk factors. Do you have cardiac or lung problems?
You are, however, probably asking about specific risk factors. Paralysis, spinal fluid infection or spinal fluid leakage, and even worsening of your pain are unfortunately potential sequela from spine surgery. BE SURE to follow the instructions your surgeon gives you. If he doesn't volunteer them, ask him/her what you can do to improve the results.
