Yes, you need to eat to maintain all bodily functions. You should takes laxatives to keep regular bowel movements. Aim for a BM every 2-3 days. Eat more fiber, take OTC laxatives like Miralax, dulcolax. Try laxative teas, prunes, or kiwis. If these don't work, then Rx laxatives are available.
Eat high fiber and prunes
Suggest that you try laxatives that are known to be safe first. With it you should make sure you have high fiber diet and plenty of water
You can continue to eat, but depending on the severity of your constipation, being on a liquid diet at that time might help alleviate your symptoms.
If this is a change in bowel habits for you, you should definitely see a gastroenterologist or Colon and Rectal Surgeon to evaluate your constipation. If this is a chronic issue, they will be able to give you advice on how to avoid constipation.
