“Should I go to the dentist if my gums are swollen?”
My gums are red and look swollen, and I'm not really sure why this is happening. They started to look like this a couple of days. Does this sound serious enough to go to the dentist?

It is always better to be safe than sorry. Some possible causes of red, swollen gums are gingivitis, trauma to the tissues, oral pathology such as disease or cancers, and medication-induced issues. Talk to your dentist to find out the specific cause of your condition and how to treat it before it progresses.
Absolutely. You should see a dentist twice a year, regardless if you have a problem or not, to prevent a problem.
Swollen gums, secondary to inflammation or infection of the gingiva (gums), are one of the most frequent signs of gum diseases. However, there are many additional causes of swollen gums, including rare autoimmune diseases like pemphigus, pemphigoid, and lichen planus, or more common ailments like gingivitis, periodontitis, and tooth infections. Each of these diseases warrants a visit to the dentist for diagnosis and treatment because they may be indicators of dangerous local or systemic consequences, and can be a sign of an underlying systemic disease.

Yes. Go. Get them checked so you know you will not get a bacterial infection which could be unhappy and painful for a long time.
Absolutely. You may have a serious buildup of calculus and need a thorough scaling. Check this problem out with the best qualified professional, your dentist.

Yes! Definitely. Swollen gums is a sign of inflammation, most of the time related to infection. The faster you go to see your doctor, the better prognosis of healing you will have.
God bless you.

Your gums are highly vascular (have a lot of blood supply) so bacteria and infections in your mouth have ample opportunity to enter your bloodstream and get to the rest of your body. Swollen, irritated, and red gums are all signs of infections. Seeing a professional to eliminate that as soon as possible is an excellent idea. It could be an indication of a much more serious problem below the gums.
Swollen gums are most likely caused by bacterial infection. Bacteria cause soft deposits that can be brushed, flossed and rinsed away. They also cause hard deposits that have to be removed by a dentist or hygienist. To prevent loss of the bone or gum supporting your teeth it is very important to schedule a dental appointment to evaluate the source of the problem and to give you options for treatment.
Yes! If your gums are red and swollen it means that you have an infection. If left untreated by a Dentist the infection could spread to your other teeth and cause bone damage. it can even spread into your blood and cause heart damage.
