I find acupuncture very helpful in treating anxiety. Not only does an acupuncture treatment help re-balance the body/mind, it has been found to balance the neurotransmitters in the brain, nervous system, and digestive tract.
The best choice for treatment. 95% of people at your age experience significant relief after the first treatment. It needs multiple session for great relief. Dr Yali Li
Acupuncture is very effective for generalized anxiety. Acupuncture not only relieves symptoms, but also treats the causes of anxiety. Most patients can feel better after one session.
Acupuncture has been known to provide relief from anxiety and depression, promotes a sense of well-being, helps improve sleep, amongst other benefits. Of course, seeing a therapist is definitely recommended as acupuncture alone cannot compare to the therapeutic value of one on one counseling. It's important to identify exactly what causes you anxiety and a qualified therapist will help you do that and facilitate in learning healthier coping mechanisms.
Acupuncture greatly reduces symptoms of anxiety, such as fear, tension, irritability, dizziness, and pounding heartbeat. As several clinical research trials demonstrated, acupuncture therapy is as effective as Buspirone, Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, and Lorazepam, but WITHOUT any side effects such as dizziness, thirst, headache, nausea, constipation, insomnia, or difficulty urinating.
We've had success treating numerous anxiety and depression cases! Acupuncture helps to manage anxiety and emotional disorders because it regulates hormones and lowers the heightened sympathetic response in the body. Learn more on our page: https://healingwithzen.com/what-we-heal/stress-anxiety/

Acupuncture is highly effective for regulating the amygdala of the brain and bringing other neurological and physiological systems to a state of homeostasis, or balance. It's been proven safe and effective for PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders - especially as an adjunct to other forms of therapy.
Generalized anxiety may be affecting your sleep, mood, appetite, interfering with daily activities, your heart, muscle rigidity, and even your lungs through depression. Acupuncture is effectively known to treat pain and anxiety/stress. I have treated patients with daily-life/work stress and even PTSD conditions. With treatments, these patients have told me they noticed other issues they were having improved as well, though they never told me about those issues. With acupuncture for generalized anxiety, you should feel a sense of peace and able to calm yourself easier should something trigger your stress. Again, you may also notice neck-shoulder tension or even TMJ will ease up due to the relief from stress. Some people will experience relief from fullness and distension, GERD related issues in Chinese medicine we relate to Liver and Gall Bladder energy that are often associated with stress. Results will depend on how long someone has been experiencing the symptoms, what the cause is and how easily the patient responds to the qi treatment. Make sure to check with your primary if this is a suitable alternative for your condition.

Acupuncture is fundamental in a health team based approach to managing Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
Acupuncture naturally increases the levels of serotonin and dopamine in the body, causing a more relaxed and happier state. This has been proven by the western medical research center, the Upledger Institute.

Hello,
In general terms, acupuncture has good results treating anxiety. That being said, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) tries not to generalize and treats each patient with a personalized approach. Here is a link to a systematic literature review: Acupuncture for Anxiety and Anxiety Disorders https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1136/aim.25.1-2.1
There, the conclusion is that Acupuncture reported positive findings comparable with medication. My recommendation is to ask your primary health provider if he/she recommends acupuncture to help you with the anxiety disorder.

Best,
Thank you for your question. The quick answer is that acupuncture is known to decrease stress and anxiety, and contribute to overall wellness. The treatment itself, being calm and still for 15-20 mins, instills stress relief itself. Hope this helps, and please look through this blog as this is a common question that has been answered based on how it was asked. Be Well, Dr. B
Acupuncture is very good for GAD. One of the first effects of acupuncture most patients notice is the feeling of relaxation. I have very good success with acupuncture for anxiety. I would suggest you give it a try.

TCM believes that anxiety disorder belongs to the category of " heart disease " of emotional disease. And its clinical manifestations are similar to " startled " and " lily disease ". The cause are mostly physical deficiency, internal emotional damage, and external evil invasion. The disease is located in the heart, lungs, spleen, kidney, and gall. the pathogenesis is phlegm-heat, yin deficiency and fire, and qi depression. Modern medicine believes that anxiety is related to individual biological characteristics and socio-psychological factors. Research on pathogensis of anxiety disorder is considered to be the result of the interaction of various factors such as various biological changes, the multi-organization and multi-organic tube involvement and the interaction of the nervous, endocrine and immune systems. Acupuncture occupies a very important position in the study of the effectiveness of anxiety disorders with its unique theoretical system and methods. With its simple, economical and non-toxic effects, it has been recognized by doctors and patients in the treatment of anxiety disorders.
Acupuncture can be an excellent treatment for anxiety disorder.
We can break acupuncture's effects in anxiety down to two basic things:
1. Acupuncture promotes the parasympathetic side of the autonomic nervous system. This part of the nervous system acts in opposition to the "fight or flight" (sympathetic) side. The benefits here are increased relaxation, promotion of blood flow to the internal organs and reduced blood pressure.
2. Acupuncture also interacts with the GABA system in the brain/central nervous system. This is the same place where anti-anxiety drugs like valium or xanax exert their effect, acupuncture does it without the risk of addiction or withdrawal. The GABA system helps the central nervous system relax which brings a level of relief to anxiety sufferers.
When working with more complex issues like anxiety or depression, it's important to make sure you're seeing a board certified and state licensed acupuncturist. You want someone who attended and graduated from a school of Chinese medicine rather than some other practitioner who may be adding acupuncture under the scope of some other licensure. Generally you're looking for an L.Ac. or R.Ac. credential and, outside of CA, your provider should also have an NCCAOM board certification. If you need help finding a local provider, again assuming you're not in CA, you can go to the "Find a Practitioner" lookup at NCCAOM.org.
