“What is the difference between a filling and an inlay?”
I need to have a dental inlay on my tooth, but I never heard of one before. What's the difference between a filling and an inlay, and why does my dentist believe it's my best option?

A filling is a one time appointment where a white (composite) or silver (amalgam) is placed. An inlay or onlay is sometimes a two-appointment visit where a gold or nowadays porcelain filling is placed. The tooth is first prepared and impression taken where the lab or in-office mill machine makes the onlay. Then cemented.
