All antidepressants are equally dangerous if given at doses not adequate for the individual person or medication interactions are not carefully considered. Patients be assertive to ask your doctor any doubts, we doctors are here to serve you, not the other way around. More importantly, stop taking medications that give you more adverse effects than the benefits that are expected. It is just plain common sense. I am always surprised of how many people come to me saying they are still taking medications that make them sick “because the doctor told me to keep taking it because they take time to start working” ! I apologize for my colleagues who don’t teach patients to practice common sense.
Most of the antidepressants are safe. Any of them has a particular contraindications. So, the antidepressant which prescribed in presence of specific contraindication is the most dangerous, especially cardiac conductivity disorder or platelets dysfunction. Also, combining two antidepressant is quite dangerous as it might lead to serious serotonergic syndrome.
