This is usually treated with a period of relative rest, splinting or bracing at the elbow or wrist depending on the history, anti-inflammatories, oral, topical, or injectable, or a combination of the three. Occupational therapy and exercise rehab is also the mainstay of treatment.
There are many different ways of treating tennis elbow. Manual therapy techniques, including physical therapy, physiotherapy, chiropractic treatment, massage therapy, trigger point therapy and others may help. It is important for him to get evaluated to determine the underlying cause of the pain and make appropriate treatment recommendations.
Different practitioners will have different treatments. A good combination I would recommend might include: chiropractic adjustments and massage or acupuncture. It might also include strengthening exercises.
I personally deal with lots of tendinitis and bursitis in my practice and I will do laser therapy and physiotherapy along with adjustment to help the patient get back to 100%
It's basically inflammation of tendons, so there are different ways to treat it. It depends on the patient.
Often tennis elbow is caused by a slight misalignment of the bones of the elbow joint. The repeated straining of the joint from even ordinary activity will cause inflammation of the surrounding tissues. Treating the inflammation with pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs will only make the problem get worse. You have to treat the cause of the inflammation. Braces may give temporary relief but I have never seen them cure the problem. Only adjusting the joint and restoring normal function will cause it to go away.
