  • Can you eat normally with Invisalign?

Yes. You are to remove the aligners to eat then floss and brush and place them back in when done. READ MORE

  • Does bonding a chipped tooth hurt?

No. If your treating dentist thinks the procedure will produce any feeling during the treatment he/she will give you some local anesthetic to numb the tooth. A vast majority of the chipped teeth I find and restore do not end up needing anesthesia. READ MORE

  • How long does it take for gums to stop hurting?

That depends on why they are hurting.  If you have not seen a dentist for recent evaluation and your gums are hurting for no known reason, you should make an appointment for an evaluation. Jesse A Grimm DDS. READ MORE

  • How long do zirconia crowns last?

The hope when they are placed is they can last the rest of your life. In school the common number thrown around for crown restoration longevity was twenty years. Insurance companies put a 5-8 year life on crowns. The most common cause for failure of zirconia crowns is recurrent decay If you floss and brush daily as directed, drink water between meals, visit your dentist every 6 months for recare appointments, there is good reason to believe a zirconia crown can last the rest of your life READ MORE

  • Is it normal to have bad breath after a tooth extraction?

Yes. It is a fairly common occurrence to have an increase in halitosis during the initial phase of surgical wound healing. Make sure to keep up with oral hygiene as instructed by your treating surgeon this healing time to keep the oral cavity as clean as usual. Obviously being cautious around the surgical site and when gently swishing and spitting starting 24 hours post extraction (tooth removal). As always finish brushing with the tongue as far back as you can get and if using mouth wash avoid alcohol base. Those increase Halitosis(bad breath) and can contribute to breakdown of the wound clot increasing chance of a dry socket. READ MORE

  • How do you brush your teeth with braces on?

As any study shows an electric tooth brush that lets you knw if you are brushing too hard will do a better job than a manual toothbrush. Electric or manual, braces or not you should start with flossing first. With braces that means using a floss threader which takes more time. Straight teeth are nice but if they have a bunch of holes in them then it was not a good trade. Brushing is pretty similar with braces. You need to pay a little more attention on getting debride off from around the brackets, especially where they are bonded to the teeth. So angle the tooth brush up from under the brackets then go back and angle from top down onto junction of bracket and tooth. this should do a good job for you. Then as always make sure you cleaned along the gum line front and back of all teeth. Don not forget the top where teeth chew. Finish with the roof the mouth and tongue as far back as you can get for healthier tissues and fresher breath. READ MORE

  • Can you get a bridge after tooth extraction?

Yes. Bridges were designed to replace extracted teeth. Now a more specific answer for your case would need to be evaluated by a dental professional you are comfortable working with. READ MORE

  • Does drinking with a straw prevent cavities?

Use of a straw in a specific orientation may reduce contact of acidic drinks on teeth thereby reducing potential ill effects of acidic drinks. Cavities or dental decay disease is a multifactoral condition (it has many different factors contributing to it). Teeth start to dissolve at a pH (measure of how strong an acid is) 5.5. Many drinks are well below that pH 3-4.5, which can dissolve enamel with in a relatively short contact time.. So preventing contact on teeth as much as possible may help reduce destruction thereby possibly reducing cavities. However the drinks tend to reduce the overall pH of the oral cavity the teeth are in so maybe not so much. Drinking thru a straw placed at the back of the mouth may have some slight benefit. • What are my options for replacing a missing front tooth?

It really depends on your specific case as to what your options would be. In general something you take in and out- a removable partial denture. For something you do not take out you may have two options, an implant- a post in bone a tooth is built on. The second option is a fixed partial denture- a bridge. for the implant you need bone or the ability to grow bone. For the bridge you need healthy adjacent teeth to bridge between. The partial has two different types. One with a cast metal framework. The second partial is all acrylic. READ MORE

  • How do I get rid of calcium deposits on my teeth?

I am assuming what you are talking about is what we most often refer to as white spots. If those spots were there as the teeth came in they are a developmental issue of the enamel-or outer layer of the tooth. Dealing with those can be a much more difficult situation. If the spots developed later it could be related to les than ideal home care and diet. In the later instance and occasionally in the former, we can have some limited success with home applications of MI paste. Another option can be a process called enamel micro abrasion. This is a process of micro etching and removing microlayers of affected enamel. Then there is always the less desirable need to remove the affected area with a dental handpiece and restore with a matching tooth color material, or place a veneer. Unfortunately bleaching can make the white spots stand out more. however sometimes further bleaching can help the spots fade some what into the surrounding whiter bleached tooth enamel. READ MORE

  • Why are my teeth having white spots?

If they are just beginning to appear, they a usually related to decay of the tooth. Acids from what you eat and drink and from bacteria using the food you eat to create an acid are dissolving tooth structure. Your saliva tries to buffer the acid and remineralize your tooth. Over time back and forth a white spot or sometimes a stain develops. Prevention is the best option. Drink water between meals because most other things people drink have an acidity that dissolves tooth structure. Limit sticky sugary and simple carbohydrate snacks, Floss before you brush with fluoride toothpaste before you go to bed, Visit your dental professional every six months for recare hygiene visits. • How can I remove plaque from my teeth with braces?

You cannot beat physical debridement. That means actually flossing and then brushing with an electric toothbrush. There are new ortho plaquers for those who will not use floss threaders they likely gave you at your orthodontist. Water flossers are a nice ADJUNCT, meaning along with the physical debridement. They remove up to 98% of plaque, but that slight sheen is a focus for quick reestablishment of bacterial right back again. READ MORE

  • Can I use salt water as mouthwash everyday?

Maybe. Salt water rinses are generally kind and soothing to the oral tissues and slightly anti-bacterial. For some individuals, too much salt can be a bigger problem than others. Though I am not recommending swallowing the rinse, there will be some uptake from the oral tissues, so you need to be aware of your own health issues in that respect. A good mix close enough to normal saline is one half teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water. READ MORE

  • Is it normal for your teeth to hurt after a dental cleaning?

No.  Once a week flossing is not enough. Flossing should ideally be done minimally every day before you brush before bed.  Proper flossing removes debris and with it some of the bacteria between your teeth where a tooth brush can not reach. It also breaks up the micro environment formed by the harmful bacteria harboring below the gum line.  It also introduces a little bit of oxygen which prevents damaging from living and growing.  We can not sterilize your mouth so even with the best professional hygiene treatment you still have damaging bacteria present.  Studies indicate that with 24 hours the harmful bacteria start to develop into damaging numbers and abilities again.  There fore you should be flossing a minimum of once every 24 hours   Floss before you brush so when brushing follows, the water and toothpaste can  rinse away the bad stuff and fluoride can get to the area to help prevent tooth decay by incorporating into the tooth structure.  At night because that is the longest time you go with out eating and at times the salivary  glands which help keep teeth healthy are not even working. • When can I stop rinsing with salt water after tooth extraction?

Every Extraction surgery is different so the best answer would be from your treating surgeon and or his team. In general after the surgical site is most vulnerable for the first three days. After that it still has a benefit, but to a lesser extent. Beyond two weeks for rinsing it is about the same as normal tissue benefit. READ MORE

  • How many months does it take to close a gap with braces?

That depends on what else all needs to be addressed with the treatment, which teeth, and how far they need to be moved. Many front teeth gaps and crowding can be corrected with in 6 months. READ MORE

  • Should I brush my teeth after deep cleaning?

Yes. Sometimes the dentist will have the hygienist place some medication around some teeth. In that case, they would have gone over what areas to avoid flossing, but otherwise, absolutely. Damaging bacteria starts to develop around the teeth within 24 hours. READ MORE

  • What is the best option for replacing missing teeth?

That is not necessarily a straight forward easy answer. It really depends on each patient who have many factors to consider. Many make an argument for implants being the best. In some situation they are the best. you can not say that they are always the best. Another great option in many cases is a fixed partial denture otherwise known as a bridge. A bridge replaces one or maybe more teeth by having teeth adjacent to the missing tooth support a non removable restoration. In some cases the best fit is something that is removable like a denture with only one tooth sometimes. It really depends on each individual situation. READ MORE

  • Can periodontitis be cured at home?

No. Periodontitis is a long term (chronic) infection involving multiple bacteria and the resulting inflammation and gum and bone destruction. Periodontitis has a genetic component which makes some individuals more predisposed to its problems. It is tough to say we cured your periodontitis just like Trying to say we have cured your diabetes. Once you have it it is a life time of treatment and maintenance. Your home care is 90 percent of how well treatment and maintenance goes. The first step is to complete the recommended therapy debridement and cleaning of the area. READ MORE

  • Should I have gum pain after getting a tooth pulled?

The degree of post op discomfort after a tooth extraction depends on multiple factors. The fact that you pointed out gum pain when brushing narrows it down some. If the procedure required opening of adjacent gum tissue to access bone for removal, your symptoms are well with in normal range of healing. If no tissue was manipulated, having some discomfort when brushing is also still within normal range. If the area does not seem to be continuously improving or gets worse, contact with your treating surgeon would be warranted. READ MORE
