Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Jamie Friedman, who serves patients in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Dr. Friedman is a highly trained orthopaedic surgeon with Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group (North Campus & South Campus in Colorado Springs). She treats a full range of sports injuries and specializes in complex injuries involving the shoulder and knee.

“I have a passion for treating people of all ages and activity levels, from elite athletes to people who want to reduce pain during work or leisure activities. It’s important for me to spend time with each patient to understand their injury as well as their individual treatment goals. Coming up with a plan together and helping a patient to improve their quality of life is what I love most about this job” expressed Dr. Friedman.

A Colorado native, she understands the active population of Colorado and enjoys taking care of their orthopaedic needs. As a former athlete, she has sustained several sports injuries herself, so she also understands how important it is to get patients back to the life they love.

Committed to helping each patient get back to the activities they enjoy at the earliest, her areas of clinical interest include sports medicine, shoulder arthroscopy, total shoulder replacement, knee arthroscopy, cartilage restoration, trauma / fracture care, and general orthopaedics.

Academically, Dr. Friedman graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She then went on to earn her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, after which she performed her residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Connecticut.

Furthering her training, she completed her fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Colorado in Denver. Her fellowship training included both arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery including revisions as well as cartilage restoration procedures of the knee.

Subsequent to her education, she attained board certification in orthopaedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

Among her professional affiliations, Dr. Friedman is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society.

From 2019 until 2010, she served as a team physician for Colorado Avalanche Hockey, Colorado Mammoth Lacrosse, University of Colorado (Football and Men’s Basketball), and Denver University Hockey.

Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

On a more personal note, Dr. Friedman is married to Justin, an Army Veteran and current aerospace engineer. They enjoy doing outdoor activities together including skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, and camping.
