Discuss the support system you rely on to best serve your child.

I have 2 children diagnosed with both autism and ADHD, and a third child currently going through the diagnosis process. My only support system is my family. Since diagnosis I have never been offered or told of any outside support systems. Both children were placed on waiting lists to join groups that took place within their child/family clinic, however the groups were stopped before my children got to join. They therefore now receive no support other than from family.

Who are the key members of your support team?

Husband, parents, and siblings.

Do you believe you receive adequate support?

No I do not. The only support offered to my children was in regards to their ADHD diagnosis. We were told that there was no support for autism. My eldest child has now been transferred from child services to adult services, but only for an ADHD clinic.

What do you wish family and friends would understand better about autism?

I would want family and friends to understand that not all children with autism present with the same symptoms, and difficulties. I have 2 already diagnosed and 1 child going through diagnosis, and each child has different difficulties and needs even though their diagnosis is the same
