Chromium supplements are generally indicated in chromium deficiency state to prevent the complications. Chromium is a trace element that is required by the body in very small amounts. It helps to maintain the metabolic processes regulating blood sugar. It causes transportation of glucose from blood circulation into cells, where it is used for energy production.

Chromium is also involved in the metabolism of fat, carbohydrate, and protein.

There are 2 forms of chromium supplements in the market which are commonly available as:

  • Glucose-tolerance factor (GTF) chromium
  • Chromium picolinate

These supplements are usually taken orally but may be needed to be injected into some patients.

2 What To Know Before Using

Before using Amino-CR, you must know all about the risks and complications associated with it.

Chromium is not present in our body but it is needed for the normal growth of the body. It also helps in maintenance of our health regulating metabolism of principal foods. Higher level of chromium lowers the incidence of diabetes and atherosclerosis. Thus, chromium deficiency is a matter of great concern.

Chromium is greatly present in:

  • broccoli, liver and brewer's yeast, potatoes, green beans, whole grains and sea food, which should be taken adequately.

Chromium deficiency is reported in 25-50% of the american population because of very low levels of chromium in soil and consumption of refined foods, especially sugar and flours which are deficient in this mineral. Although chromium is needed in very small amounts, it is often difficult to obtain because of the given factors.

Some major symptoms are discussed below for better understanding if you are suffering from chromium deficiency:

  • A sudden rise in anxiety levels associated with lightheadedness may be experienced at the initial stage. Light exercise causes a feeling of racing of the heart in such condition. This happens due to lower level of chromium in the blood. Even when you get exposed to a little stress, the body turns into proactive mode and makes you to be on unnecessary high alert.
  • Persistent lack of energy that makes you tired easily is another important sign of chromium deficiency.
  • Chromium deficiency is also responsible for fluctuation of moods in those who are deficient.

3 Proper Usage

To use Amino-CR properly, you must follow all instructions given by your doctor.

A very little amount of chromium approximately 1-2 mcg is needed for our body. But only 2% of our dietary intake is absorbed, that’s why we need to take at least 100-200 mcg chromium in the daily diet.

Chromium supplementation containing 200-300 mcg is safe for an adult. Lesser amount is required for the children.

Many mineral supplements are available in the market containing 100-150 mcg of Chromium.

In order to avoid chromium deficiency, you are advised to follow the given instructions:

  • You should avoid refined foods such as white breads, crackers and white flours.
  • You should use whole wheat products, wheat germ, broccoli, liver’s and brewer's yeast, sea foods etc.
  • You can take a general vitamin and mineral supplement that contains chromium.

4 Precautions To Take

If you take Amino-CR, your doctor should perform routine checkups and advise you in taking precautions.

Manifestations of chromium deficiency are muscle weakness, fatigue, anxiety, slow growth rate, diabetes like symptoms etc. Retarded growth can be seen in those children who take excessive amount of sugar products or candy due to chromium deficiency. You should visit a doctor immediately if you feel any symptoms suggesting chromium deficiency. Further, you can cultivate certain healthy dietary habits that prevent chromium deficiency.

Certain drugs should not be used concurrently with such supplements. Antacids should not be taken while you are receiving chromium as it interferes with the absorption of chromium.

It is always recommended to consult your doctor if you are in need of some drugs for another health problem. Additionally, you should keep in mind that chromium deficiency increases the risk of diabetes mellitus and atherosclerosis which are of great concern.
