MPI MAA injection is a radioactive agent or radiopharmaceutical that is used in finding and treating certain diseases or in studying the functions of your organs.
The injection solution is used by doctors to see an image of your lungs when diagnosing certain lung conditions. The drug is also used to allow your doctor see an image of your LeVeen or peritoneal venous shunt.
It is administered only under a specialist’s supervision.
Your doctor will inform you of what you need to know before using MPI MAA. The risks and benefits the procedure offer must be weighed.
When using this, you and your doctor must consider the following:
Allergies
If you have any unusual reaction to any medicine, be sure to tell your doctor about it. Additionally, disclose other types of allergies - food, preservatives, animals, or dyes, if there are any. Read the package ingredients carefully and make sure you are not allergic to any of its ingredients.
Pediatric
Several studies show that there are no pediatric-specific problems that may limit the injection’s usefulness in children.
Geriatric
No available information concerning the relationship of old age and the drug’s effects in geriatric patients.
Pregnancy
It is not sure if there are adequate studies done in pregnant women or if animal studies showing adverse effects are available.
Breastfeeding
Although there are no adequate studies in lactating mothers that determine potential risk in an infant when breastfeeding, the benefits should be weighed against the risks before using this.
Drug Interactions
Some drugs have adverse effects when used together. Make sure to inform your doctor about other drugs you are taking, so that alterations and precautions will be made if necessary. Before using Technetium Tc 99m albumin aggregated injection, talk to your doctor about possible interactions if you are taking other medications.
It is also important to inform your doctor if you are smoking tobacco or drinking alcohol since these may interact with the drug’s effectiveness. Inform your doctor about any drug you are using, prescription or nonprescription, as well as vitamins and herbal supplements.
Other medical problems
Before taking this diagnostic test, tell your doctor about any other medical condition you have.
There are certain conditions that may stop or limit you from doing this test, especially if you have the following:

- Cor pulmonale ( a serious heart condition)
- Heart problems
Before using MPI MAA, there are some precautions you must take. Close monitoring is important while you are using MPI MAA.

While not all side effects may affect using MPI MAA, you may require medical attention if one of these occur:

- Burning
- Coldness
- Skin discoloration
- the feeling of pressure
- Hives
- Inflammation
- Soreness
- Tenderness
- Swelling
- Infection
- Itching
- Lumps
- Pain
- Numbness
- Rash
- Scarring
- Redness
- Ulceration
- Stinging
- Tingling sensations
- warmth at the injection site
Some of the side effects may take place and may not need special medical attention and usually go away as the body adjusts to the medicine during treatment.
