1 What is Myoview?

Myoview injection is a radiopharmaceutical or radioactive agent that is used in finding and treating certain diseases or in studying the function of certain organs of the body.

This drug is also used in helping the doctor see an image of the heart and see how it works under resting conditions and during exercise, as well as to evaluate patients who possibly have heart failure or coronary artery disease.

The injection is only administered by a specialist in nuclear medicine.

2 What to Know Before Using

Before using Myoview, you must know all about the risks and complications associated with it. Deciding to go on a diagnostic test is a decision you make with your doctor. The risks and benefits the procedure offer must be weighed.

When using this, you and your doctor must consider the following:

  • Allergies: If you have any unusual reaction to any medicine, be sure to tell your doctor about it. Additionally, disclose other types of allergies - food, preservatives, animals, or dyes, if there are any. Read the package ingredients carefully and make sure you are not allergic to any of its ingredients.
  • Pediatric: Safety and efficacy of use in children are not established.
  • Geriatric: Studies have not demonstrated problems that would limit the efficacy of this drug when used by the elderly.
  • Pregnancy: It is not sure if there are adequate studies done in pregnant women or if animal studies showing adverse effects are available.
  • Breastfeeding: Studies done in lactating women show that this medicine is harmful to the breastfeeding infant. Alternative medication must be prescribed, or completely stopping breastfeeding is necessary.
  • Drug Interactions: Some drugs have adverse effects when used together. Make sure to inform your doctor about other drugs you are taking, so that alterations and precautions will be made if necessary. Before using this drug, talk to your doctor about possible interactions if you are taking other medications.

    It is also important to inform your doctor if you are smoking tobacco or drinking alcohol since these may interact with the drug’s effectiveness. Inform your doctor about any drug you are using, prescription or nonprescription, as well as vitamins and herbal supplements.

3 Proper Usage

Proper usage of Myoview requires strict adherence to your doctor’s orders. It is given by injecting it intravenously or into a vein.

After receiving this medicine, you will have to urinate immediately and as often as possible. Drinking more fluids before and after treatment can help you pass more urine.

4 Precautions to Take

Before using Myoview, there are some precautions you must take. Close monitoring is important once this medicine is administered to allow your doctor see if the drug is working properly and if it is causing adverse reactions. 

The medicine may cause anaphylaxis or other serious allergic reactions. Consult your doctor if you experience the symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, such as itching, rash, swelling, breathing difficulties, after the drug is injected.

Using this medicine exposes you to radiation. If this concerns you, talk with your doctor first. Technetium Tc 99m Tetrofosmin may affect certain medical test results. When using this drug, inform your doctor or dentist before doing any procedure.

5 Potential Side Effects

While not all side effects of taking Myoview may affect you, you may require medical attention if one of these occur:

  • Pain in the arm, back, or jaw
  • Pain or discomfort in the chest
  • Chest tightness
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat 
  • Sweating 
  • Nausea
  • Trouble breathing 
  • Blurred vision 
  • Faintness, dizziness, or light-headedness 
  • Confusion 
  • Fast, irregular, or racing heartbeat 
  • Unusual tiredness

Some of the side effects may take place and may not need special medical attention and usually go away as the body adjusts to the medicine during treatment.
