What Is Otolaryngology?
Otolaryngology is a medical specialty that is focused on the ears, nose, and throat. It is also known as otolaryngology-head and neck surgery because specialists are trained in both medicine and surgery. Otolaryngologists can perform many types of surgery on the delicate and complex tissues of the head and neck.
Endoscopic Sinus Surgery can help treat chronic sinus problems that do not respond to medical therapy. It is a surgical procedure used to remove blockages in the sinuses. These blockages cause the sinus mucous membranes to swell and become blocked, causing pain, drainage, and impaired breathing.
Balloon Sinuplasty treats chronic sinusitis through your nostrils, providing long-term relief without surgery. During balloon sinuplasty, the sinus is flushed with saline using a balloon to remove mucus, leaving the sinus clean and open. This in-office treatment can relieve chronic sinus pain lasting more than 12 weeks.
Thyroid Surgery is performed when the thyroid develops structural problems, such as swelling and the growth of cysts or nodules. Even benign nodules can cause problems if they become large enough to obstruct the throat, or if they stimulate the thyroid to overproduce hormones. The surgery involves removing all or a portion of the thyroid gland.
