Can acupuncture help ringing in the ears?

I have seen it clear up in one patient. Not terribly optimistic about it when the ringing is caused by repetitive exposure to explosions or repetitive damaging sound levels.

Where is the pressure point for ear pain?

Where in/on your ear? You should go see a doctor first.

How many acupoints are there?

Many hundreds...perhaps thousands.

Do pressure points really work?

If you mean, does stimulating energy centers with pressure, aka acupressure, by a fully trained person who understands this medicine work? Then yes. If not, I have no idea.

Can acupuncture help skin rashes?

It depends on what is causing the skin rashes, but it is likely it would if the person is fully trained and understands this medicine.

Does acupuncture help nausea?

It depends on what is causing your nausea. But in my experience, it usually does.

Can you get an infection from acupuncture?

Can acupuncture help lung problems?

Yes, there are lung problems acupuncture can help with. That's about all I can say due to the vagueness of your question.

I can't say I have ever heard of this happening to a patient before. Do the treatments cause you anxiety/panic? Is your acupuncturist a fully trained acupuncturist with a graduate degree in Asian medicine? If not, I might consider finding one and switching if this is your routine experience (negative side effects).

Does acupuncture help mental illness?

Mental Illness encompasses a book larger than the Bible and is a very vague grouping of sets of symptoms. If you mean depression or anxiety, it usually does, in my experience.

I am assuming here in my response that you have ruled out allergens causing dermatitis... laundry detergent, lotions or other substances you are putting on the skin, food allergens, etc... as I am skeptical that acupuncture would work to fix those symptoms if the exposure is constant and ongoing, though it might reduce symptoms still. Acupuncturists are usually trained in nutrition and herbal medicine. I would likely use herbal medicine to treat this along with acupuncture. I have treated exzema and psoriasis with Chinese herbal medicine and had great success. Acupuncture would also be employed to strengthen your whole system, if i were recommending a treatment plan. It certainly is very unlikely to harm you and worth a try.

I have had a handful of cases where the patient got worse after first or second treatments before improvement was seen. I feel like that is not really the normal response and perhaps I administered the wrong treatment in those moments, but that's just my personal take on it. Acupuncturists do make mistakes.... for sure. Thankfully, our mistakes almost never, if ever, cause serious complications or death. But yes, this occasionally and very rarely does occur. Best of luck in your search for health and wellness. If you are not happy with your results, my suggestion would be to find a different acupuncturist to try if your intuition is telling you that it is not helping. First and foremost, many states allow people to call themselves acupuncturists who are not adequately trained to be such--especially chiropractors, doctors, and physical therapists (called "dry needling") where they can do what I do with 20-300 hours of training. Whereas a fully trained acupuncturist with a master's degree has 700 hours of just treating patients under supervision of an experienced practitioner and thousands of hours of education. This is an important distinction! And I personally would never let any of these folks inadequately trained near me with an acupuncture needle!

It is possible. Using pressure instead of needles is just a different stimulation of the Energy/Life Force/Qi. The question is: are they fully trained in the diagnosis of East Asian Medicine/Acupuncture, or just a massage therapist who read about some points? If it was a fully trained acupuncturist with a graduate degree in Chinese Medicine, then it is possible. In my experience, i prefer needles and magnets over pressure and consider them in terms of strength of stimulation to be stronger to weaker, respectively, in that order... so pressure would not be my go to with you as my patient.

Also, generally speaking, thyroid issues can come from several different diagnosis in Chinese medicine. If Kidney Qi is the root, it can take a long time and also require nutritional and/or herbal supplements. By long time, I mean SEVERAL months, usually at least 3 for someone in your age group.

Osteoarthritis response quite well... but it may take some time at this stage of your life (being an elder). Rheumatoid arthritis is a bit more challenging as usually a patient that shows up at my office with this condition is already on several or at least one toxic medication, and the medication's toxicity is causing further problems and slowing the effectiveness. Hope that is helpful! When i was a student, I treated a woman a bit older than you that had visibly bulging nuckles in her hands from osteoarthritis. Within three treatments, the swelling/bulging reduced significantly and she was in no pain. I see greater and more rapid success with patients not taking pharmaceuticals though... mostly for the same reasons I mentioned above, or at least that is my operating theory and all I have been able to notice was different in varying patient success outcomes. This is NOT intended as medical advice about changing your prescriptions, and you should always consult your doctor before making any such decisions. Good luck!

Can acupuncture detox your liver?

I'm feeling like I don't have enough information here. What made you come to the conclusion that your liver is toxic? Can acupuncture detox the liver is a difficult question. READ MORE
I'm feeling like I don't have enough information here. What made you come to the conclusion that your liver is toxic? Can acupuncture detox the liver is a difficult question. An easier question is--can acupuncture strengthen the liver (which does the detoxing on it's own when functioning) function? I would say yes to that question, it is likely.

Usually in natural health circles detoxifying the liver is the last or second to last detoxifying when doing "detoxing." First, we start with the intestines. Then the kidneys. Maybe then the Liver.... and lastly, the blood.

That being said, the best way to "detox" is to stop putting toxins in the system. Since zero toxic exposure is likely impossible in this day and age, it is more about minimizing exposure to toxins. This is the first place to start and easy enough on your own. Get a good water filter. Stop eating processed foods. Eat minimal amounts of meat (3-6 oz daily) of only organic fed and pasture raised or grass fed animal products. Learn about the "Dirty Dozen" foods found to be contaminated with pesticides/herbicides. Stop eating seafood unless organically farm raised. Never eat wheat unless it is organic. Same with soy and corn products.

As for detoxifying the body... sweating, especially infrared sauna therapy, is a great way to detox (you should consult a physician to ensure this is safe for you first)... though you should always rinse off afterwards so your skin does not reabsorb toxins. Fresh organic juice fasting for short periods (to start) of 3 days is another good way to help your body. I recommend getting a masticating juicer, if you don't have one.

Fasting (for 3 days) and sauna therapy are relatively safe processes, but there are always exceptions. And you should consult a doctor before embarking on this to ensure they are safe for you by obtaining a health care professional's advice and personal evaluation of your unique condition.

Is anything truly a permanent cure? I mean, if you eat the McDonald's burgers 3+ times a week and drink the soda-pop, you will get sick, right? Only diet, lifestyle change, living in a eutopia, and any treatment has the potential to be a long lasting "cure." Even still, we are human... we don't live for ever. So nothing is permanent.

Isn't all pain nerve pain? :-) I'm assuming you mean a nerve is being pressed on or physically damaged...

I have seen much more limited positive outcomes for patients who have a bone pushing on a nerve, for instance. An example of this would be stenosis, or a narrowing of the spinal chord area, with back pain. I have gotten minimal to no results with those patients in particular. This pain is usually a burning or radiating/shooting pain. Is that what your pain is?
