Birth is no easy task in today’s over-medicalized world for both mothers and babies. There are a lot of pressures and forces from both natural and artificial interventions that your baby during her journey will encounter into the world. A recent study by Dr. Viola Frymann, an osteopathic doctor of over 1,500 babies following an over 8 year period demonstrated that 90% of newborns suffered the effects of birth trauma including associated neck and cranial strain on delicate nerve tissues following birth.
All the babies were examined within the first 24 hours over a 5 day period. The study revealed that approximately:
- Only 10% of newborn babies had perfect, freely mobile skulls or cranial mechanisms which is an indicator of ongoing normal and healthy brain growth.
- 10% had severe trauma to the head, evident even to untrained observers.
- 90% of the 1,500 newborns studied over 8 years; had strain patterns in the neck and cranial mechanisms requiring chiropractic intervention.
Birth in its many different forms can be quite traumatic. While each birth is unique, as both the literature and my personal experience treating babies, there is always a chance that the baby suffers some strain patterns in both the neck and cranial regions. Even the most natural births can result in trauma that goes undetected because the obstetrician, midwife, and pediatrician are not trained in detecting the subtle strains that occur. For this, a pediatric and post-natal trained chiropractor such as our office both myself and my wife are required immediately after your baby is born to accurately assess both spine and cranial needs. Look, if 90% of newborns require chiropractic intervention.
The question isn’t should I take my baby to a chiropractor. It’s, who the right chiropractor for my newborn is; and a husband and wife team and a family of 6- you can’t go wrong choosing us if you are near NWI.
At New Life Family Chiropractic, both my wife and I, in dealing with newborns there is never any popping or cracking. We always use a very gentle touch, which could be our pinky finger or a gentle instrument that precisely makes the correction so soft, it’s like putting a contact lens on your eyeball.
Why settle for the “watch and wait” approach, when you can “watch and adjust” with the right chiropractor?
