Most over the counter drugs for tinnitus are of little value, maskers are helpful for some people but difficult to find. Hearing aids are helpful if there is a high frequency loss. Stress can be a factor for some people.

Swelling within the tube allows fluid in the middle ear space to and is the cause of the crackling and discomfort. Try holding your nose and blowing to make your ear pop. I would also suggest an antihistamine to help resolve the swelling in the eustachian tube.Hope this is of some help. Without an exam this is the best I can do. Do get a hearing test and be aware of a high frequency hearing loss this would be most common in your age group and is related to noise exposure {loud music, ear buds}I
