What Is General Surgery?
General surgery consists of the treatment for the preoperative, operative, and postoperative management patients who are suffering a wide range of diseases. This may require elective, nonoperative, or emergency surgical treatment.

Minimally invasive surgery involves the use of a telescope-like instrument called an endoscope. It is inserted into the body through very small incisions. With the endoscope’s camera, your surgeon is able to see the operative site on a nearby monitor instead of having to make large incisions.  Additional small incisions are made to access the operative site with small surgical instruments.

Common Surgical Procedures. General surgery procedures usually take around one or two hours. The laparoscopic technique allows for the removal of tumors and organs while allowing the patient to be much more comfortable. The most common surgeries include hernia repair, gallbladder surgery, colon and rectal surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, subcutaneous tumors and breast surgery.

Robotic Surgery. Robotic surgery allows doctors to perform many types of complex procedures with more precision and control than is possible with conventional techniques. This includes hernia and gallbladder surgery, breast surgery, and colon surgery. Robotic surgery is usually associated with minimally invasive surgery - procedures performed through tiny incisions.
