The U.S. population is beset by geometric increases in gun violence, a resurgence in new cases of new variants of the omicron strain of the COVID-19 virus, the realization that the Ukrainian crisis is unwinnable without ratcheting up the danger of WW3, and the spiking of food, drink, and gasoline prices are going to continue. The imminent reversal of Rowe Price constitutionality and the prospect of the imposition of trigger laws in 22 states has produced desperation in many women, particularly those who are poor and cannot escape to neighboring friendly states.
The attempt to pursue medical personnel who perform abortions across state lines is also terrifying. Many are turning to their treating personnel for advice and counsel. Treating personnel are also affected by the struggle over the attempted coup of January 6th, 2021, and are dropping out, increasing their drug and alcohol use and suicidality. The increased use of the internet for self-diagnosis and prescription is also to be noted. Patience and perseverance are particularly needed and ways of supporting medical helpers like the use of masks and distancing need to be encouraged rather than abandoned.
