Generic: Methyldopa
AldometĀ is a drug used in the treatment of hypertension. This drug is available as a tablet containing 250 mg or 500 mg of Methyldopa.
Instructions:Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have the following:
- Allergy to Methyldopa
- Liver Disease
- Low red blood cell count or anemia
- Heart failure
- Pheochromocytoma
- Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
- Pregnancy or lactation
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. Continue to use it as prescribed by your doctor or as stated on the package label.
Interactions:Methyldopa may interact with medications such as:
- Iron products such as:
Lithium- Ferrous sulfate
- or Ferrous gluconate
- MAO inhibitors:
Alcohol- Isocarboxazid
- Linezolid
- Methylene blue
- Moclobemide
- Phenelzine
- Procarbazine
- Rasagiline
- Selegiline
- Tranylcypromine
- Antihistamines such as:
- Cetirizine
- or Diphenhydramine
- Drugs for sleep or anxiety such as:
Muscle relaxants- Alprazolam
- Diazepam
- or Zolpidem
- Narcotic pain relievers such as:
- Codeine
There are no side effects known aside from a possible allergic reaction in people who have previous or unknown hypersensitivity to the drug.
Watch out for signs of allergic reactions such as:
- Rash
- Itching
- Swelling
