Could this be necrosis?

My mom had a severe injury on her leg she has 32 stitches up her leg and 5 pins holding it together. She had two surgeries done and is waiting for her third. After three days a part of her leg turned black and leathery. Should she go in does this look like necrosis?

Hello. It is hard to tell from picture but appears more likely to be what is known as a fracture blister. These are blood blisters that look like necrosis but are not full thickness skin involvement. They are usually softer then necrotic tissue. For your piece of mind should probably discuss with the physician who performed the surgery. These are pretty common after this type of severe fracture. Yes, it does look like the skin is necrotic. This does not mean that the muscle below is also necrotic, probably not.
