Do I need to go to the ER if there is blood in the stool?

I have blood on my stool. Do I need to go to the ER if there is blood in the stool?

It depends on how much blood. If it is just a small amount, such as streaks on the stool, then no.
For persistent bleeding, e.g. blood alone without stool, getting lightheaded, then go to urgent care or ER.
The differential diagnosis for blood in the stool is very long, so unless you are actively bleeding, it would be better to schedule a visit with your PMD.
If there is a large amount of blood in your stool so that it is pooling up in the toilet then you should call your primary care doctor. They can instruct you what would be best to have you seen quickly.
Consult GI if stable HR less than 90 and BP wnl.
