The window for having sexual activity so that you can get pregnant is during the time of ovulation. Ovulation is always exactly 14 days before the next expected menstrual cycle. It is difficult to predict ovulation day if the cycle is not regular. Even if your cycle is regular, it is not possible to know the exact next menstrual date. Hence we consider an approximate. According to your cycle pattern, find out when are you going to get your next first menstrual bleed. Calculate 14 days prior to that, that would be the expected data for ovulation. Take 3 days before the expected date of ovulation and 3 days after the expected date of ovulation-hence 1 week. Alternate sexual activity around that. Also, you are young, be patient. Sometimes some patients get pregnant in less than a year and some little over a year.
You should seek evaluation with your provider. If you have been trying for 12 months without success we define that as infertility and you deserve a thorough evaluation and treatment if desired. By 12 months, 85-90% of couples are typically pregnant so if you are not, then an evaluation for ovulation, tubal patency and sperm production are all important tests.
You might want to to take BBT charts 1st thing every morning to see when your temperature rises. Usually mid cycle in most unless ovulation is late. If it has been a year you might want to consult your physician. Some things I do Is HSG where you put dye through the tubes to be sure they are open. Check his semen analysis to check the count. PK test ( after intercourse test to see if the Sperm are getting to the cervix. There is some online help to chart temps & with others (Fertility Friend). Has offered help too. Usually after one year, I start doing some test if you are actively seeking pregnancy
Your fertile days will depend upon whether or not your ovaries are releasing eggs. If they are, then you are generally fertile for about a week or so on the days in between your menstrual periods. For most women with predictable menses, this is usually 14 days before your next period. If your periods are unpredictable or irregular, then you may not always be
ovulating. You should see your OBGYN and figure out how to get them back on track.
