See a foot specialist immediately and have x-rays performed to evaluate for any fracture. An MRI or CT scan may be indicated for further diagnosis. Once the type in severity of foot injury is diagnosed, offloading options can be discussed. Conservative and surgical options will be discussed in accordance with the diagnosis.
Ice, elevation of the extremity, and limitation of physical activities. If pain, swelling, and skin discoloration continues then you need to be evaluated medically and need probable x-rays.
There are multiple treatments for a foot injury, depending on the injury. It can be treated with oral NSAID, physical therapy, strappings, immobilization, and steroid injections. I recommend you see your local podiatrist so he can diagnose your foot injury and initiate a treatment plan
First step is obtaining the correct an accurate diagnosis, is it a sprain, strain, or break? This will determine treatment course and healing time. In the meantime, apply ice and avoid bearing weight, if painful.
The human foot is very complex. Injury may result from congenital abnormalities, overuse injuries, trauma and sports related issues. Best to see a doctor who can help identify the problem and the etiology. A proper diagnosis may require in addition to a full clinical exam and through history, X-rays, ultrasound or MRI. A treatment plan will be formulated from all available data. Hope this helps ! Best regards, Dr. Daniel Geller Dr. Daniel Geller Sports Podiatry Foot & Ankle Surgeon (917) 546-9070 DrDanGeller.com
Ice,elevation, and gentle non-weight bearing motion. Some meds like ibuprofen can help with pain control.
Rest, Ice, Elevation and compression would be the first steps. If the pain does not improve, you should see your local Podiatrist for treatment
