There are many bursa around the knee. These protect the surrounding tendons from irritation. The most common bursitis is in the front of the knee and is known as prepatellar bursitis. The first thing is to try to figure out what caused this. Often times it’s irritation such as crawling on your knees or something rubbing against the knee and should try to discontinue or alter these actions of possible. The treatment initially besides arrest is ice to this area. Also sometimes light massage with an anti-inflammatory cream is helpful. If this is not allowing relief of pain then at times and aspiration with a steroid injection is helpful. Good luck and I hope this helps.
All depends on what started it! Usually, using local modalities like moist heat followed by ice pack for minimum 20-30 minutes. Can also try using Arnica gel, which can be obtained at any drug store (OTC), or if you prefer to take an NSAID like Albee 2 tabs twice daily with food for 5-7 days.
If treated, usually with an antiinflammatory medication, it should resolve within 4-6 weeks.
