It will take approximately 20 minutes. For radiation therapy planning you will be positioned in the same way you will be treated every day. An immobilization device will be fabricated for you. Also you will be required to have a full bladder. You will also be given instructions on doing proper bowel preps to decrease the amount of stool and gas in your rectum. This will prevent too much internal prostate movement. It is a completely painless exam.
This is something that the clinic you’re having the imaging performed at should be asked. Ct scans take about 15-30 minutes on average.

A CT scan of the prostate may take 15-60 minutes, depending on how long it takes to check-in, fill out paperwork and wait, and upon whether or not you will be receiving contrast dye in a vein. Your radiologist may be present to review the results with you, which may provide added peace of mind, and may also add to the overall appointment time. It is important to discuss your concerns with the physician who ordered your test as well as the radiology center staff before you go to the appointment. It is important to bring your ID and insurance card (if you are using insurance) to your appointment, as well as an updated list of medications. Ask your doctor whether or not you will be receiving contrast dye, and for any special instructions for your appointment, as well as what to do to prepare if you will be receiving contrast dye. Do not stop any medications without your doctor's approval.
The actual scan takes less than a minute.
