“I have sharp pain in my stomach?”
I want to my family Dr he said it could be a stomach ulcer? I have diabetes and I am on pain medication but I forget the name.

Non-steroidal analgesics such as ibuprofen,Motrin, Aleve, naproxen used for pain can frequently cause gastritis or ulcerations. Stop the NSAIDs, the above drugs fall into that category. Celebrex is prescription and is easier on the stomach. If you are buying pain drugs over the counter, check with pharmacist if they are NSAIDS.

You should be evaluated; if no response in several days or even now, see gastroenterologist. Abdominal pain can be due to multiple causes including ulcers, gastritis, gallstones, kidney stones, diverticulitis, intestinal obstruction or disease of the genitourinary system. Gastropatrsis due to diabetes usually doesn’t cause acute, severe pain.

Diabetics can develop neuropathy of the intestines, as well as inflammation of the pancreas that can be associated with abdominal discomfort. A gastric emptying study can be ordered by your doctor, along with an EGD to look at your stomach for gastritis, ulcer, or other conditions if antacid medications do not relieve your discomfort.
Many things can cause stomach pain, though ulcer is not too common. You can get an upper endoscopy to look for ulcer or other source for pain.
