Is ACL surgery painful?

I will have ACL surgery. I am afraid. Is it painful?

There are many options to help mitigate pain. Talk to your anesthesia provider. Also the technique of reconstruction that is used can help to decrease the amount of pain.

ACL surgery is not typically that painful. The anesthesiologist usually gives you a nerve block in your leg before surgery, so that you aren’t in that much pain right after surgery. Your surgeon should also discuss a pain medication regimen to alleviate pain after surgery.
There will certainly be some discomfort early on, so take your pain meds the first few days and stay ahead of it.

Depends on how you handle pain. For most folks maybe 2or 3 days of stronger pain pills then to Tylenol or something like Aleve. It’s a good idea to strengthen your leg with rehab exercise before surgery as that speeds post op rehab and offers some pain control as well.

Somewhat, but with the multimodal pain managements (almost everybody uses today), the pain is very manageable.
It can be but it’s necessary. Just accept that it’s for the better
